Balagan — how to play
Simple rules — the game also teaches you as you play.
- You hold 8 cards. Pick 1 to 5 and play a poker hand: a pair, two pair, three of a kind, a straight, a flush, a full house, four of a kind or a straight flush.
- Hand score = points × multiplier. Points come from the hand and the cards themselves (ace 11, face cards 10). The multiplier comes from the hand and your Jesters.
- Each gate gives you 4 hands and 3 discards. A discard swaps the cards you don’t want for new ones.
- Reach the gate’s target before you run out of hands to earn coins and visit the shop. Miss it and the run is over.
- The shop sells Jesters (you can keep up to 5) and Stars: a Star levels up a poker hand so it scores more.
- 8 rounds of 3 gates: small, big and a Fair Master with a rule of their own. Clear all 24 and the fair is yours!
Our own twist — Reserve
Scored more than the target? With the Reserve Jester the extra score is doubled and carried into the next gate (up to half its target).
Masters of the fair
- Lord of Hearts — hearts do not score.
- Skinflint — only 3 hands.
- Grabber — no discards.
- Sorcerer — the hand’s base points and multiplier are halved.
- Mute — face cards do not score.
- Misfortune — you must play exactly 5 cards.
