Preference

Preference — how to play

Simple rules — the game also teaches you as you play.

  1. 32 cards (7 to ace), 10 each, 2 to the talon. Pool of 10.
  2. Bidding: 6♠ < 6♣ < 6♦ < 6♥ < 6 no trump < 7♠ … < 10 no trump. Misère sits between 8 and 9, only as your first bid.
  3. The winner takes the talon, discards 2 cards and names the contract. Opponents whist or pass.
  4. Follow suit; if you cannot, play a trump. If everyone passes, it is a passing game: take as few tricks as you can.
  5. Make it — score to the pool (6 — 2, 7 — 4, 8 — 6, 9 — 8, 10 and misère — 10). Fall short — to the mountain, whisters get whists.
  6. Result: whists against each other plus the mountain difference times 10.
